1Overview

The Berkeley Nucleonics PVP-Series delivers regulated high-voltage direct current for demanding test, calibration, and production environments. Each unit is controlled by a dedicated microcontroller and FPGA, so voltage and current are held to tight tolerances digitally rather than through analog trim. The result is a source that settles fast, drifts little, and repeats reliably from one run to the next.

The family covers a wide envelope. Output voltage reaches 30 kV DC, power is offered in 500 W, 2 kW, and 3 kW classes, and current extends to 2 A on the lower-voltage models. Polarity can be electrically reversible, fixed positive, or fixed negative, and selected models offer a floating, potential-free output for applications that cannot tie to earth.

Every PVP-Series ships ready for the bench or the rack. A 3.5-inch color display and three-button menu handle local operation, while Ethernet, RS232, and a full SCPI command set make the supply straightforward to fold into an automated test sequence.

2Key Features

  • Fully digital regulation. Microcontroller and FPGA control of both voltage and current loops for repeatable, low-drift output.
  • Wide range. 1.5 kV to 30 kV DC across 500 W, 2 kW, and 3 kW power classes, with current to 2 A on lower-voltage units.
  • Flexible polarity. Electrically reversible (positive or negative, earth-referenced) or floating, potential-free output on selected models.
  • Active power factor correction. Wide-range single-phase AC input keeps the line clean across the operating window.
  • Local and remote control. Color display with structured menus, plus Ethernet, RS232, and SCPI for full automation.
  • Built for integration. 19-inch rack mount or benchtop in a 2U enclosure, with an integrated benchtop adapter.
  • Retrofittable options. Ramp control and arc detection can be added in the field.

3Model Selection

The table below lists the full PVP-Series family. Models are grouped by voltage class, from 1.5 kV through 30 kV. The Berkeley Nucleonics order reference (part number) maps one to one to the unit so quotes and procurement stay unambiguous.

Polarity suffix codes

The final digit of the part number sets polarity: ...1 positive, ...9 negative, ...5 reversible. Additional configurations follow.

Weight note. The 28.7 lb figure is the family base weight and applies to the lower-voltage models. The 20 kV and 30 kV units weigh approximately 36.4 lb and 38.6 lb respectively. Verify the exact weight for a given configuration against the published datasheet.

7Output & Polarity

The output stage supports reversible polarity on the standard models, letting a single unit serve both positive and negative test cases. Floating, potential-free output is available where the load cannot reference earth. After the output is switched off, the supply self-discharges to a safe level.

ParameterSpecification

Safety. High-voltage output is present at the HV connector during operation and for a short interval after shutdown. Confirm full discharge before handling.

8Digital Interfaces

Remote control is built in. Ethernet and RS232 are provided on the board, and the supply accepts a full SCPI command set, so it drops into existing automated test frameworks with minimal adaptation.
