1Overview

The Model 805-M is a compact RF signal generator that delivers stable, accurate frequencies from 100 kHz to 22 GHz. It is built for engineers who need reliable performance in tight spaces or budget-conscious setups, and it is widely regarded as a strong modern alternative to discontinued National Instruments QuickSyn models.

The module is small enough to embed, draws as little as 17 W, and runs on passive cooling. It supports phase-coherent multi-channel configurations and sub-microsecond switching for agile test and measurement.

2Key Features

  • Continuous coverage from 100 kHz to 22 GHz
  • Phase-coherent multi-channel support
  • Compact, integration-friendly flange-mount module
  • Sub-microsecond switching with fast phase control
  • CW and pulse modulation
  • Low power consumption, as low as 17 W, passive cooling

3Frequency & Output Power

Coverage is continuous from 100 kHz to 22 GHz with 0.01 Hz resolution. Output power ranges from -40 to +25 dBm below 20 GHz, giving a wide level window for both small-signal and drive applications.

4Phase Noise & Spectral Purity

SSB phase noise is specified across offsets at a 1 GHz carrier.

CarrierOffsetSSB phase noise
1 GHz10 Hz-87 dBc/Hz
1 GHz1 kHz-122 dBc/Hz
1 GHz20 kHz-132 dBc/Hz
1 GHz10 MHz-150 dBc/Hz

5Frequency Switching & Agility

Agility is the defining trait of the 805-M. Standard switching is 500 µs. Option FS brings switching to 20 µs, well into the sub-microsecond-per-decision regime that fast hopping and ATE sequencing demand. Frequency resolution of 0.01 Hz supports precise tuning, and phase-coherent multi-channel operation holds relationships across modules.

Linear, logarithmic, and random sweeps are supported, giving flexible coverage for characterization and signal simulation.

6Modulation

The 805-M provides CW and pulse modulation.

Verification notes. AM, FM, and PM analog modulation are not listed on the product page. Confirm analog modulation support against the latest datasheet. (verify)
